New laptops from the Korean electronics firm may contain the next standard in wireless connectivity.
The technology concept of Multiple In Multiple paul smith belt Out (MIMO) delivers faster wireless speeds, and expands the signal range from 300 to 900 feet. With MIMO, multiple antennas transmit and receive signals along a single 20MHz radio channel. That multiplies the data speed and the coverage area.
Samsung will have two wireless chipsets in its model X20 and X25 laptops. Those chipsets will be provided by Airgo Networks, and are an alternative to the dominant Intel Centrino chipset found in most wireless-networked laptops today.

The new laptop will be compatible with 802.11b and g networks. Airgo has been promoting the MIMO technology as the best technology for a new 802.11 wireless standard. Airgo CEO Greg Raleigh thinks the technology will be the basis for 802.11n.
“Demand for MIMO chips is expected to see a boost following Samsung Electronics’ decision to manufacture its X20 and X25 notebooks with Airgo’s MIMO chips for WLAN connectivity,” he said.
Additional details on the laptops’ specs or pricing have not been released yet, and there is no scheduled release date.
